CORAL MALAYSIA CELEBRATE FIRST IYOR PROGRAM WITH NEW RECORD: World longest Underwater Painting – 56.4 meter
Dear Members And Friends;
I am so sorry for a very quiet months of March and April, and at the end most of you knew that we organised an Earth Day Program in Tioman Island, from 25 to 28 April, 2008.
General Election in early April changed the whole scenes for Malaysia politic and the tsunami impact somehow also hit non profit organisation like CoRal Malaysia.
International Year of Reef (IYOR 08) Malaysian Chapter was launched by the previous minister, Datuk Seri Azmi Khalid. After election we have new Minister, Datuk Douglas Unggah, and so far, I haven’t heard anything from the ministry regarding continuation of IYOR Malaysia.
Thus, CoRal Malaysia first project that was supposedly a joint venture program with Marine Park Malaysia, went out the windows. So, our Fiesta Laut 2008, pending probably till June, and it might organise under new banner.
Taking into consideration all this development, I made decision to organise an Earth Day program. We were approached by Singapore Divers lead by Suhaimi Sukiyar, who is also President of Angkatan Pelukis Aneka Daya Singapore (APAD) and he wanted to break CoRal underwater painting record, that we did in Lang Tengah Island, in 2004.
It is blessing in disguise, as it automatically give us a venue to create a program for Earth Day that fall every 22 April. The idea put into placed when National Art Gallery agreed to join the program, with intention to create a painting on 50 meter canvas,
With more than 30 painters and artist, and 30 more divers and non divers from Malaysia and Singapore, we can’t afford to open the event to any of our members.
Coral Malaysia artist lead by Ajis Mohamad and Fauziah Latiff, Natonal Art Gallery by Majidi, Shahrul, Shimah, Normah Nordin, Iman, Saharuddin, and Singapore by Suhaimi, we successfully created a new record of 56.4 meter – breaking first record of 36 meter.
The record was endorsed by Malaysia Book of Record, and we will be sending the items to be endorsed by Guinness Book of World Record.

FROM WASTE TO WEALTH Program
As we celebration Earth Day, National Art Gallery lead by Haned Masjak and Faridah Hanim, organised community project called From Waste To Wealth.
With the help of 100 students and teachers from SK Tekek, lead by its headmaster En Nordin Karim, National Art Gallery artists, collected all sort of waste can be found on an island, and created it into items can be used.
Instead of use popular word like ‘recyle’, National Art Gallery artists – Fauzan Omar, Nuriman, Tan Sei Hon, Mohd Noor Mahmud and Fauzin Mustafa, did a great job of teaching the students on how to create creative crafts from the waste they found.
Coral Malaysia hope From Waste To Wealth concept can be enhance to educate students especially on island like Tioman, to be more creative.
We would like to say thank you and kudos to SK Tekek for their great support for this project. And we will try to persuade National Art Gallery to adopt the school for more similar project in future.
CoRal Malaysia also would like to say thank you National Art Gallery staffs – Usnita, Norazlina, West, Husni, Fairuz, Hanif, Hamid, Sham – for a good job during the event.
Not forgetting our great host – En Nazri, Zainah and Wak – from Nazri’s Place and East Divers Tioman team lead by Sufian and Zai. Thank you from the bottom of our heart.
