Coral/Shell Project Aware 2003

PULAU PERHENTIAN , April 2003: This was a joint project with our sponsor Shell Malaysia to transplant corals to a site called the Coral Garden. This initiative was launched in April 2003 with the target of accomplishing the following objectives;

	To increase awareness amongst the participating divers, the importance of appreciating our coral reefs and marine life .
	To develop and maintain our Malaysian Marine Parks.
	To capture the attention of Malaysian public on marine conservation issues.
	To protect, conserve and promote Malaysian underwater environment in order to attract local and foreign tourists.

The overall goal of the ‘Coral Garden’ was to improve the quality of life of the island community of Malaysia especially fishermen, while simultaneously restoring the native biodiversity of these rural environments.
The continuity of the ‘Coral Gardens Initiative’ during this Project Aware campaign, hopefully will provide support and expertise to help communities conserve, manage and restore their coral reef resources.
