Malaysian CoRal Reef Conservation Society (Persatuan
Pemuliharaan Terumbu Karang Malaysia) or known as CoRal Malaysia
was formed in 2003. We are non-profit organization dedicated to
create public awareness through strategic thinking and unique
programs in order to help protect coral reef and its ecosystem.
Creating name as first NGO to
do ‘coral planting’ with Marine Park of Malaysia in
2003, CoRal Malaysia create real impact in diving community when
received its first Malaysia Book of Record (MBoR) for ‘Longest
Underwater Painting’ in 2004.
Lead by Malaysia’s first
Underwater Painter, Ajis Mohamad and a group of artist from Malaysia
National Gallery, 40 divers painted a 36 meter canvas. The painting
now is a national heritage at National Art Gallery.
Year 2006 is a great year for
CoRal Malaysia. With support from State Government of Terengganu,
two more records were received from MBoR.
From creating a massive 20 meter
national flag, Jalur Gemilang, underwater on 17th August, to hoisting
the national pride from the seabed on Malaysia’s Independence
Day, 31st August, 2006. The national flag now is being exhibit
at lower ground of Wisma Darul Iman, State Government of Terengganu
administration office.
CoRal Malaysia also recognized
as first marine NGOs’ created an Underwater Gallery. Six
replicas of Terengganu heritage were placed at the seabed of Bidong
Island, in November, 2006.
Since 2007, CoRal Malaysia focus
is on community program. With global warming threats also affect
coral reef, we feel its time to do more serious program with community
at large. Sea Fiesta on March, 2007, was a stepping stone to a
better awareness program.
CoRal Malaysia in one of the
active NGO’s promoting International Year of Reef 2008 (IYOR
2008) Malaysian Chapter. CoRal Malaysia hope IYOR 2008 will bring
a better future to our coral reef.
